The Purpose of Scripture
Psalm 19 is one of the most powerful declarations in all of Scripture about the Word of God. In this sermon, we will explore verses 7–14 and discover why God has given us His Word and what it is meant to accomplish in our lives.
David begins by declaring the perfection, purity, and reliability of Scripture. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The Word of God is not merely informative—it is transformative. It restores, strengthens, enlightens, and produces righteousness in those who submit to it.
But Psalm 19 does not stop with description. It presses into response. If the Word is truly more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey, then it must shape our hearts, expose our hidden sin, and lead us to repentance. The Psalm concludes with a humble prayer: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
Join us as we examine the supremacy, sufficiency, and sanctifying power of Scripture—and consider how we are called not only to hear it, but to treasure it, obey it, and rest in the Redeemer it reveals.
