Guard Your Way
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” — Psalm 119:9
In Episode 1 of the SDG Athletics Podcast, Cole Cleveland begins an eight-week journey through Psalm 119:9–16 by asking a foundational question: How can a young person live a life of purity in a world constantly trying to shape them?
Biblical purity involves far more than sexual purity. It encompasses our thoughts, words, attitudes, desires, relationships, decisions, and conduct. For athletes, that means our faith cannot be separated from competition. How we respond to failure, success, playing time, coaches, teammates, pressure, and adversity reveals something about the condition of our hearts.
Psalm 119:9 gives us God's answer: guard your way according to His Word.
This episode challenges athletes to recognize the constant influences competing for their hearts, parents to prioritize spiritual formation above athletic achievement, and coaches to see every practice and competition as an opportunity for discipleship.
The challenge for this week is simple: memorize Psalm 119:9 and identify what you need to guard against in your own life.
Don't allow sports culture, feelings, or the wisdom of the world to determine how you walk.
Guard your way according to the Word of God.
Soli Deo Gloria.
