2026: Rethinking Athletics #2

May 19, 2026

In this episode of the “Rethinking Athletics” series, we examine one of the clearest evidences that youth sports has become disordered in many Christian homes: the relationship between athletics, worship and the local church.

This episode is not about legalism or creating man-made rules. Instead, it addresses a much deeper issue — worship, priority and what ultimately sits at the center of family life. As modern sports culture increasingly demands more time, energy, emotional investment and devotion, many families are slowly discovering that athletics has begun shaping the entire structure of their lives.

Through biblical reflection and pastoral application, this episode explores:

-The importance of the local church

-How children learn priorities through observation

-The dangers of allowing sports to become central

-The exhausting demands of modern youth athletics

-And how Christian families can begin thinking biblically about order, worship and stewardship

Athletics can be a wonderful gift from God, but it becomes dangerous when it is elevated beyond its proper place. This episode challenges families to honestly evaluate what youth sports culture is producing and calls listeners to place athletics underneath the Lordship of Christ instead of allowing it to compete against Him.
